Al-Jumu`ah

The Congregation, Friday

الجمعة

يُسَبِّحُ

Glorifies

yusabbiḥu

لِلَّهِ

Allah

lillahi

مَا

whatever

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَمَا

and whatever

wamā

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

ٱلْمَلِكِ

the Sovereign

l-maliki

ٱلْقُدُّوسِ

the Holy

l-qudūsi

ٱلْعَزِيزِ

the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzi

ٱلْحَكِيمِ

the All-Wise

l-ḥakīmi

١

Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth is exalting Allāh,1 the Sovereign, the Pure, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.2

— Saheeh International

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

بَعَثَ

sent

baʿatha

فِى

among

ٱلْأُمِّيِّـۧنَ

the unlettered

l-umiyīna

رَسُولًۭا

a Messenger

rasūlan

مِّنْهُمْ

from themselves

min'hum

يَتْلُوا۟

reciting

yatlū

عَلَيْهِمْ

to them

ʿalayhim

ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ

His Verses

āyātihi

وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ

and purifying them

wayuzakkīhim

وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ

and teaching them

wayuʿallimuhumu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ

and the wisdom

wal-ḥik'mata

وَإِن

although

wa-in

كَانُوا۟

they were

kānū

مِن

from

min

قَبْلُ

before

qablu

لَفِى

surely in

lafī

ضَلَـٰلٍۢ

an error

ḍalālin

مُّبِينٍۢ

clear

mubīnin

٢

It is He who has sent among the unlettered [Arabs] a Messenger from themselves reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] and wisdom [i.e., the sunnah] - although they were before in clear error -

— Saheeh International

وَءَاخَرِينَ

And others

waākharīna

مِنْهُمْ

among them

min'hum

لَمَّا

who have not yet

lammā

يَلْحَقُوا۟

joined

yalḥaqū

بِهِمْ ۚ

them

bihim

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

ٱلْعَزِيزُ

(is) the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzu

ٱلْحَكِيمُ

the All-Wise

l-ḥakīmu

٣

And [to] others of them who have not yet joined them. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

فَضْلُ

(is the) Bounty

faḍlu

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

يُؤْتِيهِ

He gives it

yu'tīhi

مَن

(to) whom

man

يَشَآءُ ۚ

He wills

yashāu

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

ذُو

(is the) Possessor

dhū

ٱلْفَضْلِ

(of) Bounty

l-faḍli

ٱلْعَظِيمِ

the Great

l-ʿaẓīmi

٤

That is the bounty of Allāh, which He gives to whom He wills, and Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.

— Saheeh International

مَثَلُ

(The) likeness

mathalu

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

حُمِّلُوا۟

were entrusted

ḥummilū

ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ

(with) the Taurat

l-tawrāta

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

لَمْ

not

lam

يَحْمِلُوهَا

they bore it

yaḥmilūhā

كَمَثَلِ

(is) like

kamathali

ٱلْحِمَارِ

the donkey

l-ḥimāri

يَحْمِلُ

who carries

yaḥmilu

أَسْفَارًۢا ۚ

books

asfāran

بِئْسَ

Wretched is

bi'sa

مَثَلُ

(the) example

mathalu

ٱلْقَوْمِ

(of) the people

l-qawmi

ٱلَّذِينَ

who

alladhīna

كَذَّبُوا۟

deny

kadhabū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِ

(the) Signs

biāyāti

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

لَا

(does) not

يَهْدِى

guide

yahdī

ٱلْقَوْمَ

the people

l-qawma

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

٥

The example of those who were entrusted with the Torah and then did not take it on1 is like that of a donkey who carries volumes [of books].2 Wretched is the example of the people who deny the signs of Allāh. And Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O

yāayyuhā

ٱلَّذِينَ

you (who)

alladhīna

هَادُوٓا۟

(are) Jews

hādū

إِن

If

in

زَعَمْتُمْ

you claim

zaʿamtum

أَنَّكُمْ

that you

annakum

أَوْلِيَآءُ

(are) allies

awliyāu

لِلَّهِ

of Allah

lillahi

مِن

from

min

دُونِ

excluding

dūni

ٱلنَّاسِ

the people

l-nāsi

فَتَمَنَّوُا۟

then wish

fatamannawū

ٱلْمَوْتَ

(for) the death

l-mawta

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you are

kuntum

صَـٰدِقِينَ

truthful

ṣādiqīna

٦

Say, "O you who are Jews, if you claim that you are allies of Allāh, excluding the [other] people, then wish for death, if you should be truthful."

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

But not

walā

يَتَمَنَّوْنَهُۥٓ

they will wish for it

yatamannawnahu

أَبَدًۢا

ever

abadan

بِمَا

for what

bimā

قَدَّمَتْ

(have) sent forth

qaddamat

أَيْدِيهِمْ ۚ

their hands

aydīhim

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

عَلِيمٌۢ

(is) All-Knowing

ʿalīmun

بِٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

of the wrongdoers

bil-ẓālimīna

٧

But they will not wish for it, ever, because of what their hands have put forth. And Allāh is Knowing of the wrongdoers.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلْمَوْتَ

the death

l-mawta

ٱلَّذِى

which

alladhī

تَفِرُّونَ

you flee

tafirrūna

مِنْهُ

from it

min'hu

فَإِنَّهُۥ

then surely it

fa-innahu

مُلَـٰقِيكُمْ ۖ

(will) meet you

mulāqīkum

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

تُرَدُّونَ

you will be sent back

turaddūna

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

عَـٰلِمِ

(the) All-Knower

ʿālimi

ٱلْغَيْبِ

(of) the unseen

l-ghaybi

وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ

and the witnessed

wal-shahādati

فَيُنَبِّئُكُم

and He will inform you

fayunabbi-ukum

بِمَا

[of] what

bimā

كُنتُمْ

you used to

kuntum

تَعْمَلُونَ

do

taʿmalūna

٨

Say, "Indeed, the death from which you flee - indeed, it will meet you. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you about what you used to do."

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O

yāayyuhā

ٱلَّذِينَ

(you) who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوٓا۟

believe

āmanū

إِذَا

When

idhā

نُودِىَ

(the) call is made

nūdiya

لِلصَّلَوٰةِ

for (the) prayer

lilṣṣalati

مِن

on

min

يَوْمِ

(the) day

yawmi

ٱلْجُمُعَةِ

(of) Friday

l-jumuʿati

فَٱسْعَوْا۟

then hasten

fa-is'ʿaw

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

ذِكْرِ

(the) remembrance

dhik'ri

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَذَرُوا۟

and leave

wadharū

ٱلْبَيْعَ ۚ

the business

l-bayʿa

ذَٰلِكُمْ

That

dhālikum

خَيْرٌۭ

(is) better

khayrun

لَّكُمْ

for you

lakum

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you

kuntum

تَعْلَمُونَ

know

taʿlamūna

٩

O you who have believed, when [the adhān] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumuʿah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allāh and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew.

— Saheeh International

فَإِذَا

Then when

fa-idhā

قُضِيَتِ

is concluded

quḍiyati

ٱلصَّلَوٰةُ

the prayer

l-ṣalatu

فَٱنتَشِرُوا۟

then disperse

fa-intashirū

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the land

l-arḍi

وَٱبْتَغُوا۟

and seek

wa-ib'taghū

مِن

from

min

فَضْلِ

(the) Bounty

faḍli

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَٱذْكُرُوا۟

and remember

wa-udh'kurū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

كَثِيرًۭا

much

kathīran

لَّعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تُفْلِحُونَ

succeed

tuf'liḥūna

١٠

And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allāh, and remember Allāh often that you may succeed.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

رَأَوْا۟

they saw

ra-aw

تِجَـٰرَةً

a transaction

tijāratan

أَوْ

or

aw

لَهْوًا

a sport

lahwan

ٱنفَضُّوٓا۟

they rushed

infaḍḍū

إِلَيْهَا

to it

ilayhā

وَتَرَكُوكَ

and left you

watarakūka

قَآئِمًۭا ۚ

standing

qāiman

قُلْ

Say

qul

مَا

What

عِندَ

(is) with

ʿinda

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

خَيْرٌۭ

(is) better

khayrun

مِّنَ

than

mina

ٱللَّهْوِ

the sport

l-lahwi

وَمِنَ

and from

wamina

ٱلتِّجَـٰرَةِ ۚ

(any) transaction

l-tijārati

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

خَيْرُ

(is the) Best

khayru

ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ

(of) the Providers

l-rāziqīna

١١

But [on one occasion] when they saw a transaction or a diversion, [O Muḥammad], they rushed to it and left you standing. Say, "What is with Allāh is better than diversion and than a transaction, and Allāh is the best of providers."

— Saheeh International
