يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you who believe yāayyuhā O you who believe alladhīna O you who believe āmanū (Do) not lā put (yourselves) forward tuqaddimū before Allah bayna before Allah yadayi before Allah l-lahi and His Messenger warasūlihi and fear Allah wa-ittaqū and fear Allah l-laha Indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) All-Hearer samīʿun All-Knower ʿalīmun
O you who have believed, do not put [yourselves] before Allāh and His Messenger1 but fear Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you who believe yāayyuhā O you who believe alladhīna O you who believe āmanū (Do) not lā raise tarfaʿū your voices aṣwātakum above fawqa (the) voice ṣawti (of) the Prophet l-nabiyi and (do) not walā be loud tajharū to him lahu in speech bil-qawli like (the) loudness kajahri (of) some of you baʿḍikum to others libaʿḍin lest an become worthless taḥbaṭa your deeds aʿmālukum while you wa-antum (do) not lā perceive tashʿurūna
O you who have believed, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet or be loud to him in speech like the loudness of some of you to others, lest your deeds become worthless while you perceive not.
إِنَّ Indeed inna those who alladhīna lower yaghuḍḍūna their voices aṣwātahum (in) presence ʿinda (of the) Messenger of Allah rasūli (of the) Messenger of Allah l-lahi those ulāika (are) the ones alladhīna Allah has tested im'taḥana Allah has tested l-lahu their hearts qulūbahum for righteousness lilttaqwā For them lahum (is) forgiveness maghfiratun and a reward wa-ajrun great ʿaẓīmun
Indeed, those who lower their voices before the Messenger of Allāh - they are the ones whose hearts Allāh has tested for righteousness. For them is forgiveness and great reward.
إِنَّ Indeed inna those who alladhīna call you yunādūnaka from min behind warāi the private chambers l-ḥujurāti most of them aktharuhum (do) not lā understand yaʿqilūna
Indeed, those who call you, [O Muḥammad], from behind the chambers - most of them do not use reason.
وَلَوْ And if walaw they annahum had been patient ṣabarū until ḥattā you came out takhruja to them ilayhim certainly it would be lakāna better khayran for them lahum And Allah wal-lahu (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun Most Merciful raḥīmun
And if they had been patient until you [could] come out to them, it would have been better for them. But Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you who believe yāayyuhā O you who believe alladhīna O you who believe āmanū If in comes to you jāakum a wicked person fāsiqun with information binaba-in investigate fatabayyanū lest an you harm tuṣībū a people qawman in ignorance bijahālatin then you become fatuṣ'biḥū over ʿalā what mā you have done faʿaltum regretful nādimīna
O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.
وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ And know wa-iʿ'lamū that anna among you fīkum (is the) Messenger of Allah rasūla (is the) Messenger of Allah l-lahi If law he were to obey you yuṭīʿukum in fī much kathīrin of mina the matter l-amri surely you would be in difficulty laʿanittum but walākinna Allah l-laha has endeared ḥabbaba to you ilaykumu the Faith l-īmāna and has made it pleasing wazayyanahu in fī your hearts qulūbikum and has made hateful wakarraha to you ilaykumu disbelief l-kuf'ra and defiance wal-fusūqa and disobedience wal-ʿiṣ'yāna Those ulāika (are) they humu the guided ones l-rāshidūna
And know that among you is the Messenger of Allāh. If he were to obey you in much of the matter, you would be in difficulty, but Allāh has endeared to you the faith and has made it pleasing in your hearts and has made hateful to you disbelief, defiance and disobedience. Those are the [rightly] guided.
فَضْلًۭا A Bounty faḍlan from Allah mina from Allah l-lahi and favor waniʿ'matan And Allah wal-lahu (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun All-Wise ḥakīmun
[It is] as bounty from Allāh and favor. And Allāh is Knowing and Wise.
وَإِن And if wa-in two parties ṭāifatāni among mina the believers l-mu'minīna fight iq'tatalū then make peace fa-aṣliḥū between both of them baynahumā But if fa-in oppresses baghat one of them iḥ'dāhumā on ʿalā the other l-ukh'rā then fight faqātilū one which allatī oppresses tabghī until ḥattā it returns tafīa to ilā (the) command amri (of) Allah l-lahi Then if fa-in it returns fāat then make peace fa-aṣliḥū between them baynahumā with justice bil-ʿadli and act justly wa-aqsiṭū Indeed inna Allah l-laha loves yuḥibbu those who act justly l-muq'siṭīna
And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two. But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allāh. And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allāh loves those who act justly.
إِنَّمَا Only innamā the believers l-mu'minūna (are) brothers ikh'watun so make peace fa-aṣliḥū between bayna your brothers akhawaykum and fear Allah wa-ittaqū and fear Allah l-laha so that you may laʿallakum receive mercy tur'ḥamūna
The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allāh that you may receive mercy.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you who believe yāayyuhā O you who believe alladhīna O you who believe āmanū (Let) not lā ridicule yaskhar a people qawmun [of] min (another) people qawmin perhaps ʿasā that an they may be yakūnū better khayran than them min'hum and (let) not walā women nisāon [of] min (other) women nisāin perhaps ʿasā that an they may be yakunna better khayran than them min'hunna And (do) not walā insult talmizū yourselves anfusakum and (do) not walā call each other tanābazū by nicknames bil-alqābi Wretched is bi'sa the name l-s'mu (of) disobedience l-fusūqu after baʿda the faith l-īmāni And whoever waman (does) not lam repent yatub then those fa-ulāika they humu (are) the wrongdoers l-ẓālimūna
O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name [i.e., mention] of disobedience after [one's] faith. And whoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you who believe yāayyuhā O you who believe alladhīna O you who believe āmanū Avoid ij'tanibū much kathīran of mina the assumption l-ẓani Indeed inna some baʿḍa assumption l-ẓani (is) sin ith'mun And (do) not walā spy tajassasū and (do) not walā backbite yaghtab some of you baʿḍukum (to) others baʿḍan Would like ayuḥibbu one of you aḥadukum to an eat yakula (the) flesh laḥma (of) his brother akhīhi dead maytan Nay, you would hate it fakarih'tumūhu And fear Allah wa-ittaqū And fear Allah l-laha indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) Oft-Returning tawwābun Most Merciful raḥīmun
O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allāh; indeed, Allāh is Accepting of Repentance and Merciful.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O mankind yāayyuhā O mankind l-nāsu Indeed, We innā created you khalaqnākum from min a male dhakarin and a female wa-unthā and We made you wajaʿalnākum nations shuʿūban and tribes waqabāila that you may know one another litaʿārafū Indeed inna (the) most noble of you akramakum near ʿinda Allah l-lahi (is the) most righteous of you atqākum Indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun All-Aware khabīrun
O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allāh is the most righteous1 of you. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing and Aware.
۞ قَالَتِ Say qālati the Bedouins l-aʿrābu We believe āmannā Say qul Not lam you believe tu'minū but walākin say qūlū We have submitted aslamnā and has not yet walammā entered yadkhuli the faith l-īmānu in fī your hearts qulūbikum But if wa-in you obey tuṭīʿū Allah l-laha and His Messenger warasūlahu not lā He will deprive you yalit'kum of min your deeds aʿmālikum anything shayan Indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun Most Merciful raḥīmun
The bedouins say, "We have believed." Say, "You have not [yet] believed; but say [instead], 'We have submitted,' for faith has not yet entered your hearts. And if you obey Allāh and His Messenger, He will not deprive you from your deeds1 of anything. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful."
إِنَّمَا Only innamā the believers l-mu'minūna (are) those who alladhīna believe āmanū in Allah bil-lahi and His Messenger warasūlihi then thumma (do) not lam doubt yartābū but strive wajāhadū with their wealth bi-amwālihim and their lives wa-anfusihim in fī (the) way sabīli (of) Allah l-lahi Those ulāika [they] humu (are) the truthful l-ṣādiqūna
The believers are only the ones who have believed in Allāh and His Messenger and then doubt not but strive with their properties and their lives in the cause of Allāh. It is those who are the truthful.
قُلْ Say qul Will you acquaint atuʿallimūna Allah l-laha with your religion bidīnikum while Allah wal-lahu knows yaʿlamu what mā (is) in fī the heavens l-samāwāti and what wamā (is) in fī the earth l-arḍi And Allah wal-lahu of every bikulli thing shayin (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
Say, "Would you acquaint Allāh with your religion while Allāh knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and Allāh is Knowing of all things?"
يَمُنُّونَ They consider (it) a favor yamunnūna to you ʿalayka that an they have accepted Islam aslamū Say qul (Do) not lā consider a favor tamunnū on me ʿalayya your Islam is'lāmakum Nay bali Allah l-lahu has conferred a favor yamunnu upon you ʿalaykum that an He has guided you hadākum to the faith lil'īmāni if in you are kuntum truthful ṣādiqīna
They consider it a favor to you that they have accepted Islām. Say, "Do not consider your Islām a favor to me. Rather, Allāh has conferred favor upon you that He has guided you to the faith, if you should be truthful."
إِنَّ Indeed inna Allah l-laha knows yaʿlamu (the) unseen ghayba (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi And Allah wal-lahu (is) All-Seer baṣīrun of what bimā you do taʿmalūna
Indeed, Allāh knows the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth. And Allāh is Seeing of what you do.
